LOST DREAMS by Author Kari Lemor

It’s my great pleasure to welcome author Kari Lemor to Notes From a Romantic’s Heart. Today we’ll be talking about the latest book in her Storms of New England series, Lost Dreams.

About the Book

Once bitten, twice shy…

For the past decade, fire captain, Greg Storm, has wanted no part of another relationship all thanks to a faithless wife who handed over their infant son and fled. He and his son have done just fine by themselves.

Teacher Alandra Cabrera and abandonment go together all too well. She and her daughter were left in the cold by a controlling husband who really only wanted a personal servant and perfect wife. Once a mother, she fit neither of those roles. His dismissal shattered her already limited self-esteem.

With Greg’s son in Ali’s class, the two get to know each other better beyond school and town committees. They both have extreme trust issues and taking that first step toward something more requires courage. Especially with the trauma and rejection left in the wake of their past. Unless they find their way beyond the barriers, a future together seems out of reach...

“You know what? Ms. Cabrera didn’t get a chance to try on the turnout gear. Do you think she should?”

Her class all cheered as she shook her head in horror. “I’m fine.”

“Nope, it’s not fair that everyone had a turn but you didn’t. Come here.”

Throwing him a death glare, she stepped forward and whispered, “I’ll pay you back for this.” She peeked over her shoulder and smiled for the students.

Greg held her waist as she slipped her shoes off, stepped through the pants and into the boots. As he pulled up the pants and settled the straps on her shoulders, his hands touched her in a few spots. She wouldn’t admit how nice it was having a man touch her again. Not that he meant it in any romantic way.

“Now for the coat.” He helped her into the coat, and she marveled at how heavy it was. The helmet was next, and it nearly sent her over.

“How do you walk in this stuff?”

“Not only do we walk with the gear, we usually wear a breathing apparatus.” He pointed to a huge air tank and mask Barry held up. “But we won’t make you put that on today. We should show you what it’s like to get in and out of the engine with the gear.”

Ali whipped her head around and frowned. Greg was grinning, his dimples flashing at her, taunting her. Holding out his hand, he escorted her to the engine and helped her step up into it. His hand pushed at her butt, and she almost lost it. When she glanced at him, he was biting his lip to keep from laughing. Oh, yeah, she’d have to think of some way to get him back.

Up in the seat, she waved to the kids like she was a queen, and they clapped. Now to get down. Greg was right there, holding his hands out ready to assist her. When she got on the last step, her foot slipped in the overlarge boot and she stumbled. Greg caught her and slung her over his shoulder.

“And this is how we carry someone out of a burning building.” Slowly, he lowered her to the floor. Ali’s face had to be crimson with the amount of heat swirling over her cheeks and neck.

Bobby, Fallon, and Seamus passed out plastic fireman hats and stickers as Greg assisted her in removing the gear.

“Thanks for totally embarrassing me in front of the class.” She made sure to sound playful so he’d know she wasn’t too upset. “I will have to think of something to get back at you.”

“I have two younger sisters. I’ve heard that threat before. I can handle it.” He winked at her.

As she stepped out of the pants and boot combination, Greg held her waist again. Little shivers ran down her back. Between his touch and the wink, she was coming unglued. Get it together, girl, you’ve got a class to take care of.

When she attempted to pull on her shoe, she almost lost her balance and grabbed onto the closet object. It just happened to be Greg’s bicep. Wow, that was one nice muscle. No wonder he’d been able to pick her up and throw her over his shoulder so easily.
