DAUGHTER OF LIGHT by Author Eileen Dreyer **Book Blast**

Welcome to Notes From a Romantic’s Heart. It is my pleasure to welcome Author Eileen Dreyer back to the blog. Today, we’ll be featuring her book, Daughter of the Light, Book 2 in the Daughters of Myth series. You can find all the stops on Eileen’s tour at Goddess Fish Promotions. Don’t forget to enter the Rafflcopter drawing for your chance to win a $20 gift card. The entry form is at the bottom of this post.

GENRE: Paranormal Romance
He’s had enough
Harry Wyatt, Earl of Hartley has enough problems trying to keep his estate solvent. What he does not need is yet another lost child showing up on his land looking for the Hartley Fairy Diamond made famous by a recent film. A fairy diamond that is no more than myth handed down by delusional ancestors and responsible for the perilous state of his finances. And yet there is something about this latest visitor, something beside her delicate beauty and troubling familiarity. Something that is compelling him to go against everything he believes to help her. To want her.

She’s on a quest
Sorcha, daughter of Mab Queen of Fairies is on a quest. Dropped into a cold, alien world, it is her task to recover the great fairy stone that has been lost to the land of mortals, a stone whose absence has upended the balance of nature. If she doesn’t get the stone back, spring will not come. But there is a handsome mortal standing in her way. A mortal she is drawn to like no other man, fairy or mortal. A mortal who claims he doesn’t believe in her, but whose memories and fears say otherwise. A mortal with green fairy eyes. A mortal she could love, if only he weren’t mortal and she fairy.

Note: This title was previously published as Dark Seduction

You can find Daugher of Light on Amazon

“Here! What are you doing? Get up!”

Startled, Sorcha looked up to see long legs in front of her. Thick boots, sturdy pants, long, sleek limbs. Tall limbs. She kept looking up and then up and still he went on.

A man.

A mortal, dark and fierce and glowering at her.

Sorcha stumbled to her feet, her instinct that of flight. This man was her enemy, surely, in this terrifying place.

“I—I... Forgive me...” she gasped and stumbled. Her feet were too numb from the cold to hold her up, her senses still in too much upheaval.

She reached out for balance and ended up crashing into the mortal’s chest. He grunted, struggling to stay upright. He reached for her, but it was too late. In a tangle of limbs, the two of them tumbled over and their momentum carried them rolling all the way down the long hill into the rocks at the bottom.

“Ooomph!” he grunted, coming to a halt right on top of her.

“Please...” She shoved at him, but it was like trying to move granite. “I... can’t... breathe...”

“Oh. Sorry.”

He lurched up, a hand on either side of her head, until he balanced himself over her, lifting his weight but not his control. “I...”

But then he stopped and stared. Sorcha couldn’t help it. She stared back. A mortal he might be, but he was magnificent. Taller than even the Tuatha, stronger than the elven guards, fiercer than the Dubhlainn Sidhe. Dark and sharp-edged, with high cheeks and a taut jaw and a rapier of a nose. A face on which even a scowl was a thing of beauty. And Sorcha revered beauty.

But that wasn’t what silenced her. It was his eyes. Dark-fringed, wide, crystal-bright. And green.

Fairy green.

Sorcha’s heart leapt in her breast. She felt joy bubble up in her, the relief of a saved life, the delight of finding that she’d been wrong. There was another familiar face in this alien place.

“Ah, how lovely,” she said, lifting her hand to his face. “You’re the one I’m to be looking for, then.”

“The one you’re looking for?” he asked, his voice oddly hushed, his eyes still deep and dark.

She laughed. “Of course. Didn’t the queen herself tell me to look for the one who is us? And who would be quicker to recognize the mark of a fairy than I? Your sister thanks you for her welcome, mo dearthair’”

“What?”

She gave him an even larger smile. “Ah, pardon. I forget it’s the mortal tongue I need. I merely called you my brother. I thank you, my brother, for my welcome.”

For a second the stranger stared at her. Then, shaking his head, he dragged her to her feet. “That’s it,” he said. “I’m calling the police.”

New York Times bestselling author and RWA Hall of Fame member Eileen Dreyer and her evil twin Kathleen Korbel have published over forty novels and novellas, and ten short stories in genres ranging from medical suspense to paranormal to romance. She is thrilled to have joined Oliver Heber Books to continue her Drake’s Rakes series about Regency aristocrats who are willing to sacrifice everything to keep their country safe, of which Ill Met by Moonlight is a near relative.

A former trauma nurse, Eileen lives in St. Louis with her husband, children and large and noisy Irish family, of which she is the reluctant matriarch. A seasoned conference speaker, Dreyer travels to research, and uses research as an excuse to travel. Oh, who's she kidding? She doesn't need an excuse. She has the Irish wanderlust and satisfies it as often as she can to the point that she has sung traditional Irish music on four continents. She also had the incredible chance to research Drake’s Rakes by attending the 200th anniversary of not only the Battle of Waterloo, but the Duchess of Richmond ball (in period attire). She has animals, but refuses to subject them to the limelight.

Eileen Dreyer will be awarding a $20 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via Rafflecopter during the tour.

THE WITCH AND THE DREAMWALKER by Author Victoria Rogers **REVIEW** *Giveaway*

Today we're pleased to welcome author Victoria Rogers to Notes From a Romantic's Heart to tell us about her new book, The Witch and the Dreamwalker, Book 2 in the McKinley Women series. You can find all of the stops on Victoria's tour at Goddess Fish Promotions. Don't forget to enter the Rafflecopter drawing for your chance to win a $15 gift card. The entry form is at the bottom of this post.

It’s 1982, and corporate witch Vivian McKinley is determined to climb the ladder of a growing paranormal security firm. With the help of Xavier Prince, President and CEO of Prince Charms, Vivian uncovers a plot to take over the business. The pair navigate office politics and machinations to prove a psychic vampire’s treachery.

Available on Amazon

Vivian shook her head as the pair wandered off. “Soda and lime,” she ordered from the bartender as he finally made his way over. She tossed a bill into the tip jar as she waited.

At this rate she was going to need to go to bed at ten. She stubbed the cigar out in the marble ashtray but kept it as a prop, hoping it would dissuade anyone from offering her another. With John halfway into his cups the news of her promotion would spread like wildfire, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for that. She squeezed the lime into her drink and left the lime slice on a napkin. Bathroom. There would hardly be anyone in there since men outnumbered anyone else in the ballroom. She could escape and process there.

The bathroom was old and gaudy and coated in marble and fading gilt. It had a twelve-foot arched ceiling, and a maroon carpet. There was a sumptuous sitting area adorned with cream colored wing-back chairs and there were grand mirrors for women to, presumably, powder their nose in. The toilets were farther on through a gilded archway and a fan of potted plants.

The place was empty, thank goodness. She sat down at the far end in a chair by a counter. She put the cigar in an ashtray on the mirrored side table and leaned back. Head of Research and Development. Twenty-seven years old and the head of R and D. She clenched her fists and bit her bottom lip, kicking her feet in excitement. By the gods! Her. Vivian Mary McKinley, Head of Research and Development at Prince Charms. This shouldn’t be happening. It was supposed to take her years and years and years to achieve this, not three years and a major project later.

But then again, Xavier had founded Prince Charms at the age of twenty-six. If he could take a small paranormal security company and rocket to the largest in the country in just nine years, well, she could achieve big things too.

Her stomach was busy flipping about when the big wooden door with brass handles and ornate hinges swung open.

“Oh, honey, I thought I’d find you here,” Jenny said as she flopped down in a chair opposite Vivian. “People are asking about you out there.”

“Yes, well, they’re going to have to wait,” Vivian said with a wave of her hand. “I need a moment to myself first. Plus, John made me drink bourbon. I need a break.” She reached for her glass of soda water and took a sip.

“You’re not going to be sick, are you?”

“What? No. I’ll be fine. I just wasn’t expecting this, you know? It’s a lot to take in.”

“You better not be doubting yourself because you deserve every ounce of this promotion. You’re smart, and you’ve got ideas, and you have every bit as much wherewithal as one of those smug-ass bastards out there. No one has ever come up with a psychic vampire ward! No one, not ever, until you figured it out. You got there before anyone else in the world. Vivian, Vivian, look at me.” Jenny pursed her red lacquered lips.

Vivian ripped her eyes away from the ashtray and met Jenny’s pout with a laugh. “Yes! Yes! I hear you. On paper it all fits, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to accept.”

“What? Why not? Any one of those assholes would accept it without batting a lash. Even Peter, from accounting.”

“OK! OK,” Vivian conceded. “Fine. I deserve this promotion.”

“Yeah, you do, babe.” Jenny grinned. “Now, how long are we going to hide in the bathroom?”

“Give me a few more minutes.”

“Whatever you need.” Jenny managed to stay silent for thirty seconds before she spoke again. “So. What’s he like?”

“Who?”

“Mr. Prince! I’ve never met him. He never comes down to the labs. Mr. Simeon always goes upstairs to the offices for meetings. I’ve only ever talked to Pam, the receptionist upstairs.”

“I talked to him for all of three minutes. He smiled a lot, but he was promoting me. I assume most people smile at the person they’re promoting.”

Jenny giggled. “I wouldn’t know.”

Vivian looked up to the ceiling and sighed. “He seemed nice.”

“He’s a god in mortal form is what he is,” Jenny interjected. “Have you seen him on the tennis court?”

“Well, yes, at the club, but he’s our boss.”

“Just because he’s the boss doesn’t mean you can’t look.”

Vivian shook her head. “That’s not what I’m here for, Jenny. I’m here to be a professional. To grow and learn and well… be successful at it all.”

“You can do all that and still look,” Jenny said with a shrug.

“All right. Let’s go back to the party if it means I don’t get regaled with nonsense like this.” Vivian stood and picked up her matching clutch from the chair next to her.

“Anything to help,” Jenny said, smirking.

3.5 Stars

I found The Witch and the Dreamwalker a wonderful trip back to the 1980s with on-point descriptions of the people and places, as well as the troubles women faced climbing the corporate ladder. The writing was enthusiastic, despite a few minor grammatical errors/missing words, etc. However, the errors didn’t detract from the story enough to matter.

While I realize this was intended to be a steamy paranormal, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with how quickly Viv fell into the boss’ bed, especially after having to defend her promotion against the accusations that she’s slept her way up the ladder. I would have also liked to have seen more emphasis on the supernatural, as opposed to the office politics.

If you like your paranormal on the mild size, and your romance/lovemaking on the steamy side, you’re sure to enjoy this book.

Kyle held his breath, as he pushed through the back door and went around to meet her by her car. Game on, buddy. Pull yourself together.

Yet a shockwave rippled through him at the sight of her. Black hair piled on her head in a messy, windblown bun. Short, sexy, red sundress. Her legs were bare. Pale yet gorgeous and toned. On her feet? High-top red sneakers with white laces.

Cassie dropped big, round sunglasses into place on her nose, and she grinned at him. “I made it.”

The huge dog—about the size of a pony—glanced his way but didn’t move. As if to say, “I am unimpressed by your appearance, human.”

“Yes, you made it.” He forced a pleasant smile though inside he was in full, freak out mode.

“This is Odin,” Cassie explained, still smiling. “Odin…say hello to Kyle.”

The Great Dane bared big white teeth on command in a ridiculous smile-esque maneuver. Yet still he didn’t budge from his seat.

“That’s his only trick,” Cassie offered with a chuckle. “We don’t ask much of each other.”

Kyle’s brain screamed, okay…time to fess up. “Cassie…before we go any further, there’s something I must confess. Please don’t get mad.”

Her smile evaporated. “Oh, that’s never good.”

“Hang on…it’s not good, but it’s not terrible, either.”

“Yet to be determined.” She crossed her arms and leveled a hard stare on him. “Spill it.”

“I may have…Okay, I definitely said…you’re my girlfriend.” Kyle cringed in anticipation of her reaction.

“You said what?” Her voice spiked.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”

“A death wish?” she accused with a scowl. “Who did you say this to?”

“Not many. Just my sister, Kat.” He swallowed hard and took a step back. “She told my grandmother.”

“No?” Her tone went dangerously low.

“…who then told my mother when she called to say she wasn’t sure if she was coming. Who, in turn, told Kendall, my younger sister. Who really isn’t coming, by the way. So, that part’s good.”

“Is it now, Kyle? Really?” Cassie demanded with an infuriated huff.

“Yeah…except Kat told her boyfriend, Ben. Now I’m done. I think. Maybe not. News travels fast on Last Chance Beach.”

Her dark eyes pinned him in place. “So…basically…you’re telling me everyone in your family and on this island thinks we’re a couple?”

Kyle gave her a small, shrugging wince. “Yeah…pretty much.”

Cassie glared at him. Lips pinched together. The tiny muscle alongside one eye quivering. “I cannot believe this.” She started pacing alongside her car. “Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had a vacation? A little time off? A day, even, just for me? This was a gift to me. A chance to unwind after all the work I’ve been drowning in.”

“I’m sorry. Again. I didn’t mean to screw up your vacation. I don’t know what came over me. It just happened. Kat was bragging about all the great things in her life. She literally walked in with an engagement ring the size of a bus on her finger. Gran was gushing. Ben had just proposed. She got a promotion. Ben is expanding his business, yada, yada…My brain blew a gasket.”

“So? Who cares, Kyle? It’s family. Not like you’re competing with anyone.”

Kyle dropped his head in shame. “You don’t know my family,” he admitted.

Welcome back to Notes From a Romantic's Heart. Today we're featuring the second book in the Ghosts of New England: Skullery Bay anthology.

About Book #2

Best Selling and Award-Winning Author Kathryn Hills

He’s the solicitor working as a caretaker because of the deadly curse.
Their love will rebuild the legend.

A storm is coming to Fairwinds after lifetimes of emptiness. Can love survive the dark secrets revealed there?

A house of mystery and shadows awaits Lucy Ellison on the windswept coast of New England. Neglected and all but forgotten, Fairwinds is the centuries-old estate of her ancestors. Locals know the legend and stay away. Whispered stories of vengeful ghosts and pirate curses. Lucy never imagined she’d experience them firsthand, until her brother banishes her there following the death of their father. But the resident spirits are the least of her worries. Her brother’s schemes include marrying her off to a stranger. The question is why?

Nathaniel Bradford arrives at Fairwinds to discover the latest victim on the rocks below the sea cliffs. Unless Nate agrees to step into the dead man’s shoes, his mother will be the sole caretaker of the vast estate. His law firm in Boston can spare him for a few weeks, but how can he find a replacement for a man who supposedly left by way of a deadly curse? The unexpected arrival of the beautiful heiress, Lucy Ellison, complicates everything. She’s from the dubious family that continues to upend Nate’s life. Yet their mutual attraction is as swift and powerful as the waves surrounding them.

Nathaniel walked silently through the dark halls of Fairwinds, heading for the library. The place his mother said Lucy waited for him.

Memories of her beauty the night before still unsettled him. Long hair undone and falling about her shoulders like a shiny brown curtain. Her naked form, barely visible beneath her nightgown. She’d been a silhouette of curves against the backdrop of the fire’s glow. The globes of her breasts, swaying as she adamantly plead her case that Fairwinds was haunted.

Aye, the house is haunted. But dare I speak the truth I’ve come to know?

Fear that Lucy Ellison would leave Fairwinds like all the rest, once she learned the extent of the hauntings, left a pit in Nate’s stomach. Whether he liked it or not, he was powerfully attracted to the new lady of the house.

Approaching the library door, he eased it open to peer inside. Lucy sat before the large, ornate fireplace in one of the old wing-back chairs. She wore a simple grey dress, her hair pinned up and tamed again. Reserved and distant. Somber in her loss. About her shoulders was his mother’s favorite, thick shawl to ward off the November chill. Pip slumbered in her lap alongside a discarded book.

“Penny for your thoughts,” he murmured upon entering.

Lucy startled, yet her gaze warmed when connecting with his.

“I’m sorry I frightened you.”

“You didn’t.” She gave him a weary smile. “I was but lost in my thoughts.”

“I see Pip is off duty tonight,” he teased.

“Yes, he hasn’t found a single thing to interest him in the house, proving my theory. Fairwinds has a ghost problem, not a rodent problem.

Nate sat beside her in a twin chair, and he held his cold hands out to the fire. “My mum said you’ve been in here for hours. And that you didn’t want dinner.”

“I’m not hungry.” She glanced around them. “I am, though, quite fond of this part of the house. I imagine it was most impressive when these carved, mahogany bookshelves were filled with volumes.”

“Like the library at my university. They had a sitting room with a fireplace, tucked away, so it was often empty. It was my favorite place to work.”

Lucy gave him an admiring smile, as she stroked the sleepy cat. Nate watched her graceful fingers, transfixed as they glided through Pip’s striped fur.

“Thank you for seeing Mistress Grimes safely to town.”

“She’s onboard a coach bound for Boston already,” he explained. “Didn’t waste a second looking back.”

“Did she say where she would go after Mystic Point? Would she stay in Boston, for example?” Lucy asked, sounding genuinely concerned for the woman, who was often cruel to her.

“She’s not one for sharing, especially with the hired help. Didn’t utter a word the entire way there. Except to threaten my life should I let anything happen to you.”
